Rediscover OnClick Utilities

OnClick Utilities is a suite of powerful yet simple to use software programs. We're aware many users of our backup software haven't been introduced to these programs, and we haven't mentioned them in our mailings for a very long time. With a recent update to HashOnClick and PatchOnClick now seems like the best time to put that right.

All seven OnClick Utility programs have been carefully designed with a single purpose in mind. We released the ever popular EncryptOnClick way back in 2005. Since then we have added to the OnClick family and improved the old favourites so that it has now grown to become a suite of invaluable tools. Four of the seven programs are available in two flavours (Free and Commercial), and each of the seven programs are installed separately so you can pick and choose what best suits your needs:

Download OnClick Utilities

The downloads page above details what additional benefits the paid-for versions provide, but here's a summary of what the programs do:

FindOnClick will show you where files are faster than any other non-indexed search solution. With great filtering you will locate that lost file in no time. Finding duplicates, empty files, MP3 files, image files, and more...

EncryptOnClick is a simple way to encrypt your data. Ensure the files you want to keep safe and out of view from others stay that way. Remember your password as once you've encrypted data there's no way to ever gain access to it again.

DeleteOnClick allows you to securely delete files so no program can recover it. For this reason you must use this program carefully as once a file is 'Securely Deleted' no one can undelete it. DeleteOnClick also allows you to easily wipe free disk space.

UndeleteOnClick recovers files which have been mistakenly trashed. For any file types including NTFS compressed and NTFS encrypted files. Note that UndeleteOnClick will not be able to recover files that have been securely deleted using DeleteOnClick.

HashOnClick verifies files are identical. Particularly useful when downloading or sharing data. Let's say you download SyncBackPro from 2BrightSparks. You can verify you have an identical file to that on our server using this easy to use program.

ScrambleOnClick allows you to quickly encrypt/decrypt a selectable section of text within any document that you wish to keep private, and is an extremely useful program for anyone who needs to send sensitive information or private text segments within a document.

PatchOnClick lets you send and receive updates to large files without having to send or receive the whole file each time.

OnClick Utilities Bundle Discount

All seven OnClick Utility programs are available for a single payment of just US$29.95, but if you purchase a license of either SyncBackSE or SyncBackPro and place that into your store cart first, you'll have the opportunity of purchasing OnClick Utilities for $14.95, a 50% saving! You'll see the offer immediately below the sub-total under "ADDITIONAL OFFERINGS":

Understanding Windows File Attributes

We're pleased to introduce Conrad Chung, a new member of the team here at 2BrightSparks. In addition to providing support, Conrad has been writing some great new technical articles that we're certain will prove useful to you. The first topic Conrad focused on was understanding Windows File Attributes. Knowing a little about File Attributes will help you understand why certain things happen with files, and why certain things can’t happen if an attribute is defined in a certain way. An extract from the article follows:

Introduction

We use digital files every day, but it’s relatively rare we need to recognize the attributes of a digital file. You might for example have wondered how the Windows operating system differentiates files that are visible from those that are hidden. Or let’s say a text editor program pops up an error message informing you the file is “read-only” when you’re trying to save changes to the file - you might ask yourself: how does the text editor know that the file is read-only? File Attributes tag files with additional information that Windows uses to act on.

Knowing a little about File Attributes will help you understand why certain things happen with files, and why certain things can’t happen if an attribute is defined in a certain way.

What are File Attributes and What are They Used For?

File attributes are pieces of information associated with every file and directory that includes additional data about the file itself or its contents. They can exist in only one of two states – Set or Cleared; similar to an On or Off state. Attributes can be in files, directories, volumes and certain system objects. They are used by the operating system and software applications to define file system behavior...

The World of FTP and SSH

In addition to the article on File Attributes, you'll also find two new articles on FTP and SSH:

An Introduction to FTP

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is a protocol used to transfer files between an FTP host/server and an FTP client computer on the Internet. FTP is most commonly used to download files from the World Wide Web. It is an alternative choice to HTTP protocol for downloading and uploading files to FTP servers.

FTP has been around for a long time and while its popularity has decreased since the introduction of cloud services, it is still commonly used by administrators for file uploads to the web server and file data transfer/backups to FTP servers.

SSH File Transfer Protocol Explained

Secure Shell Protocol (SSH) is a protocol used to establish a secure connection between a remote server and a computer. Secure Shell utilizes public key encryption to provide strong user authentication and secure encrypted communications over the Internet.

SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) is designed as an extension of the SSH2 protocol to provide secure file transfer capability. Both command and data connections are encrypted between the client and the FTP server to allow passwords and other sensitive information to be transferred securely over the network.
